I finished this track the morning I left for college. My laptop was dead, so the final recording is this. Mono, dubbed into the headphone jack of my iPod Touch and uploaded to Soundcloud. The final master copy which I have is an m4a downloaded back from Soundcloud about a month later when my laptop finally came back to the world of the living.
So it's grungy and compressed. Perfect. That's exactly what I wanted it to be.
That's exactly how I felt as I left Goshen sort of for good for the first time in 5 years. I didn't know what to expect, it was exciting but scary and I realized that I was going to miss the place. So the track is somewhat regretful, but makes progress unrelentingly forward. It's complex, made of simple repeating processes. And it's dissonant. It's compressed. It's scary. Just like the start of college.
Turns out college was totally not scary, and only a little new. And um obviously I was coming home every summer to work at subway anyway, so this was all far less momentous than I wanted it to be. But still, you get the idea.
